SARASOTA – Ben Bernanke, former chairman of the Federal Reserve, will close the 2015 Ringling College Library Association’s Town Hall lecture series with two lectures about the Great Recession and his efforts to keep the economy from slipping into “financial Armageddon.”

Ben Bernanke, former chairman of the Federal Reserve, will be a speaker in the Ringling College Library Association’s Town Hall Lecture Series in 2015.

Bernanke was one of six speakers announced at Thursday’s final lectures of the 2014 series. Other speakers include a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, an expert on U.S. China relations, an astrophysicist, a longevity expert and a Somali activist.

“I think it’s a terrific lineup,” said Nancy Morgan, chairman of the 2015 series. Jay Logan, chairman of the 2014 series, “has left large shoes to fill and you know, we’re fresh out of former presidents that we could get.”

This year’s series was heavy on international affairs and international politics, with speakers ranging from former President George W. Bush to Thursday’s former secretary of defense Leon Panetta.
