Oaks Club Residents Give Bundles of New Toys to Sarasota’s Safe Children Coalition

Osprey, FL — The Oaks Club residents donated more than $5,000 worth of new toys to the Safe Children Coalition of Sarasota during their annual Holiday Caroling event on December 15.

Oaks Club General Manager, Victor Balcom, welcomed Kevin McKenney, Director of Community and Client Relations of the Safe Children Coalition to gather the hundreds of toys from underneath a 22 foot high live spruce into a waiting “sleigh” ensuring children around Sarasota would receive the toys for Christmas.

“It was a tremendous event at the Oaks. Your members outdid themselves this year and we will use every gift for the children in our care,” said McKenney.

Under the leadership of the Sarasota Family YMCA, the Safe Children Coalition (SCC) is a collaborative effort between the YMCA and many local community entities that provide a continuum of child welfare services for dependent children who have been abused, neglected or abandoned. Child protection services provided include case management, foster care, independent living and adoptions.

A 1,000-acre development situated on U.S. 41 (Tamiami Trail) 10 miles south of downtown Sarasota, The Oaks Golf & Country Club is currently home to 750 families. Financially stable, The Oaks Club is the area’s only private, member-owned and member-governed golf course community. It features two championship-style 18-hole golf courses, 12 HAR-TRU® tennis courts, the area’s finest croquet court, a junior Olympic pool and elegant 34,000-square-foot Georgian-style clubhouse with three attractive dining venues.
